Sick of the Instagram Algorithm
First of all, Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday, mine was busy, but filled with love. :)
Many people have been wondering where I've been, what's been going on, and why the sudden lack of motivation when it comes to blogging.
Well, the answer to it all is Instagram. When I initially started blogging and started an Instagram account, I was excited by the positive feedback. I was motivated by the engagement and consistent increase in following. I maintained a well manicured feed and made sure my photos were always of great quality.
Suddenly, around June, I found that all my hard work was not paying off like it was before. Despite the effort, I started losing followers and engagement. Now, maybe I was the problem. Maybe I was doing something wrong.
However, after talking to fellow bloggers, I found that I wasn't alone. Apparently, Instagram changes its algorithms to prevent people from scamming the system. By doing this, they've also managed to block organic growth for people who genuinely use the app.
After months of struggling to grow organically, I'm kind of stuck. I know that people use comment pods and apps for likes and loop giveaways to grow now. But I'm scared that the Instagram gods may punish me if I partake.
Working so hard and hitting a wall has been hard. I'm at a stand still and don't know what to do. After nearly two years, I don't want to give up on something I've devoted so much time to building.
But, I feel like Instagram needs to stop being so hypocritical. They are forcing us to pay for advertisements to grow. But if they create these algorithms to prevent inorganic growth on the app, why stop organic growth as well and force it via paid promotions? Seems like paying for growth is a big NO NO to Instagram, unless you pay them for it.
Maybe I need to just carry on being me and not worry so much about Instagram. Thoughts?
