Instagram Frustrations

Instagram Frustrations

Since I started blogging, I have used Instagram as my main platform. I took pride in the fact that I had never missed a single day of posting. That was until Friday, when I decided I had enough of Instagram.

My frustrations with Instagram just seem to increase as the months go by. I'm at a point where I'm unsure of what to do next. So I decided a good place to start is with sharing my frustrations.

1. Instagram Algorithms

I am constantly hearing rumors about Instagram changing its algorithms, causing panic throughout the blog world. First it was "Instagram will now only recognize comments of 3 words or more". Then it was "Instagram only counts the first hour of engagement to rank posts". "Sharing photos through comment pods will decrease engagement"....the list goes on.

2. Shadowban

This is the most recent rumour that has been going around. Basically a shadowban is when your post is banned from showing up on the hashtags you post with your photo. This is Instagram's way of making life for bloggers even more difficult. Meaning your photo will no longer show up to anyone who doesn't follow you. You cannot be pushed to a top 9 spot under hashtags, overall making your photo seen by only your followers, if even that.

3. Paid Promotion

By making your posts less visible to even those who follow you, Instagram is now pushing, more than ever, for us to pay in order for our posts to be seen. I find it extremely frustrating that Instagram wants accounts to have genuine likes, genuine followers, genuine engagement, and yet they are the ones who are forcing us to pay for this "genuine" engagement. Hypocrytical much?

All of these frustrations are why I decided to take a tiny break from Instagram. I find that I am losing motivation to use a platform that seems to want to make it extremely difficult for us to continue doing what we love. If authenticity is what Instagram is after, then why not just let us be?! Stop with all of these algorithms already and let people engage organically.
