What is Beautiful?
I never truly appreciated the beauty and calmness of a beach until I moved to Vancouver.
Indian families aren’t the biggest fans of spending their day on the rocky beach in the boiling hot sun. My parents always kept us away from the sun, fearing that a tan would somehow make us less attractive. Unfortunately I carried this idea, that light skin equaled beauty, with me until very recently.
When I moved to Vancouver, I realized that it was a large part of West Coast culture to spend a day at the beach, with your friends, and inevitably, tan. Here it seemed, the darker you were, the more beautiful.
I am now learning to embrace the beautiful sun (with the right sunscreen of course-old habits do die hard) and spending a day at the beach has become something I look forward to.
